Manage a plan's rewards

Build the learner's reward menu, set how often each reward may be given in a session or an hour, and archive rewards you no longer use.

Applies toBCBAOrg Owner

The rewards on a treatment plan are the learner's reinforcement menu: the items, activities and tokens aides can give during a session. For each reward you set a category, how much the learner prefers it and, if you need to, how many times it may be given per session or per hour. Aides see the plan's active rewards when they log a delivery, sorted by preference, and ABACare warns them as they near a limit.

Before you start

  • You work on the Rewards tab of the plan, in the web app.
  • To add a reward, the plan must be Active. Editing and archiving stay available on an On Hold or Completed plan.
  • Org owners manage rewards the same way. Aides do not see the tab; they log deliveries in sessions.

Add a reward

Open Learners, select the learner, open the Treatment Plans tab and select the eye icon on the plan. Then open the Rewards tab.

The learner's reward menu.
  1. Select Add Reward.
  2. Type the Reward Name (required, up to 200 characters).
  3. Pick the Category: Edible, Tangible, Activity, Social, Sensory or Token.
  4. Pick the Preference Level (High, Medium or Low) and the Delivery Type (Immediate or Delayed).
  5. Add a Description if you want, for example how to deliver the reward.
  6. Under Delivery Limits, set Per Session and Per Hour if the reward needs a limit, from 1 to 1000. Leave a box empty for No limit.
  7. Tick Hard Enforce to block deliveries past a limit. Without it, the limit only warns the aide.
  8. For a timed reward, such as a few minutes of a game, set Duration (seconds). Add any Contraindications, such as an allergy.
  9. Select Create.

The message Reward created successfully appears and the reward joins the list as Active.

Edit a reward

  1. Select the pencil on the reward's row.
  2. Change the fields and select Save.

You can clear a limit or the duration, but not the description or the contraindications: if you empty one of them, the old text stays. Replace it with new text instead.

Archive a reward

  1. Select the pencil on the reward's row.
  2. Select Archive Reward. It happens at once, without asking to confirm.

The reward stays in the list with the Archived tag and no longer appears in new sessions.

How limits work in a session

  • A limit counts deliveries, not items: giving three stickers at once is one delivery.
  • As a reward nears its limit, the aide sees a warning. Without Hard Enforce, the aide can still log it past the limit.
  • With Hard Enforce, a delivery past the limit is refused. Hard Enforce does nothing on a reward with no limit.

What happens next

  • The next session for this learner offers the plan's active rewards with their limits. The printed worksheet lists them too.
  • A session already in progress keeps the rewards it loaded. If you archive a reward during a session, the aide's next delivery of it fails with an error.
  • Rewards an aide adds during a session appear in this tab like any other, and you can edit them here.
  • Use Show All, Active and Archived above the list to filter it.
  • If the list fails to load, an error message appears briefly and the tab looks empty. Reload the page before adding rewards, so you do not add them twice.
