Parent guides

What parents can do in ABACare, on the phone and on the web, and where to find the guide for each task.

Applies toParent

ABACare is the app your child's ABA clinic uses to plan therapy, run sessions and follow progress. As a parent, you see only your own children, and you use ABACare for two things: following your child's therapy, and practicing at home the skills your child's BCBA shares with you. The same account works in the web app, in a browser, and in the ABACare mobile app on your phone. Sessions, progress and approved hours are in the web app only. Practice at home and behavior logging work in both apps, and the phone can also remind you to practice every day.

Words you will see

  • BCBA: the Board Certified Behavior Analyst who leads your child's therapy and writes their treatment plan.
  • Therapist: the staff member who works with your child during sessions.
  • Goal: an area your child is working on, such as asking for things at home.
  • Target: one specific skill that is part of a goal, such as asking for a snack with a full sentence. A goal has one or more targets.
  • Mastered: your BCBA has judged that your child has learned the skill and shows it reliably.
  • On Hold: your BCBA has paused work on this skill for now. It is not practiced in sessions or at home until they resume it.
  • Session: one therapy appointment.
  • ABC: the way you describe a behavior: the Antecedent (what happened before), the Behavior itself and the Consequence (what happened after).

What your clinic decides

Parent portal

Follow your child's therapy in the web app: their sessions, the notes written for you, their progress and their approved hours.

Practice at home

Practice with your child, log what happens and read your BCBA's feedback, on your phone or on the web.

More than one child

If more than one of your children attends the clinic, you pick the child you want. In the web app, a selector at the top of the page lists your children, or the page shows each child in turn. In the mobile app, each child has a card on the My Children screen with their own buttons.
