Set mandatory targets for a session

Choose the targets an aide must collect data for in one scheduled session, and see how the aide's apps show them.

Applies toBCBAOrg Owner

Mandatory targets are the targets you want data on in a particular session, for example a target you plan to review or one close to mastery. You choose them on a scheduled session. When the aide starts that session in the mobile app, those targets are already ticked and cannot be unticked.

Before you start

  • You set mandatory targets in the web app, on a session that is still Scheduled.
  • Only targets in Active, Generalization or Maintenance status can be chosen. A target on hold is not listed. If you put a mandatory target on hold after choosing it, an aide whose session is already in progress can still collect it, but it no longer counts as unfinished.
  • They belong to one session. Sessions booked by a recurring series, and sessions aides book themselves, start with none.

Choose the targets

  1. Open the session: select it on the calendar and choose View Details, or open it from the sessions list.
  2. Find the Mandatory Targets card, with the line Select targets the Aide must collect data for. It lists the plan's targets with their status. Targets already mandatory are ticked.
  3. Type in Search targets... to narrow the list, and tick or untick targets. Targets hidden by the search keep their tick.
  4. Select Save Mandatory Targets. The message Mandatory targets updated confirms it.

Each save replaces the whole selection, so unticking every target and saving clears them. If the plan has no target in those statuses, the card says No active targets available.

What the aide sees

  • In the mobile app, when the aide opens the session to start it, each mandatory target is ticked and marked Mandatory target, and its tick cannot be removed. A target the aide cannot run that day, for example a maintenance target whose check is not due, is not forced. See Start a session and select targets.
  • The web app does not mark or lock mandatory targets. An aide who starts the session on the web picks targets freely.
  • ABACare does not check at submit that the mandatory targets have data. Check them when you review the session: see Review and complete a submitted session.

What happens next

  • Once the session starts, the card is no longer shown.
  • Changing mandatory targets on one session of a series does not change the other sessions of the series.
  • Nobody is notified. The aide sees the targets when opening the session.
