Set the default mastery destination for new targets
Choose where new targets move by default when they meet their mastery criteria, generalization, maintenance or mastered, and what changes for your BCBAs.
When a target meets its mastery criteria and Automatic State Transition is on, ABACare moves it by itself. Each target says where it goes: Generalization, where the skill is tested in new settings, Maintenance, where the team checks from time to time that it stays, or Mastered. Your clinic chooses which of the three new targets start with, so BCBAs whose practice sends mastered skills to generalization or maintenance first do not have to change it on every target.
New clinics start on Mastered.
Before you start
- Only org owners see this setting, and only in the web app.
- The setting only decides the starting choice. BCBAs can still pick another destination for any target, when they create it or later.
Change the default
- Open Settings > Organization.
- In the Clinical Practice card, Default destination when mastery is met shows the current default. It stays greyed out until the page has loaded your clinic's settings.
- Pick Generalization, Maintenance or Mastered. The choice is saved straight away, with no window to confirm.
The message Default mastery destination updated appears. If saving fails, Failed to update the default mastery destination appears and the setting goes back to the saved choice. If the page opens with Failed to load organization, the setting stays greyed out: reload the page.
What happens next
- Targets created from now on start with the new destination: custom targets, targets added from the library, targets in an imported treatment plan and targets aides add during a session.
- When a BCBA creates a custom target, When mastery criteria are met, transition to already shows your default, and they can pick another before saving. See Create a custom goal or target.
- Targets an aide adds during a session start with Automatic State Transition off. The destination counts once their BCBA turns it on. See Add a target in session.
- Existing targets keep the destination they have. A BCBA changes it on each target: see Configure a target's measurement and mastery.
- Nobody is notified of the change, and no history of it is kept. A plan page already open in another browser tab, or by another person, keeps offering the previous default until it is reloaded.
